Sistem Sheaffer Vac
28/06/2022CS Winston Cherry Red
30/06/2022Wahl Eversharp, the 2nd generation Doric, a beautiful translucent material, a plunger filler or "1-stroke fill" system. In good shape, which is a great thing, as many are prone to crystalizing due to the corrosion of the celluloid. Sadly, the golden seal of the Wahl guarantee is missing from the cap's top. It happens very often. The pen was made up to 1937/1938, for the shut-off valve was put on these pens for just a year. Not very effective, it disappeared from the model fabricated after 1938.
This pen has the filling system completely shot; it is obvious the rod and all the innards will have to be dismantled fully and replaced, as per case. The job will entail (among others) to follow the Sheaffer 1-stroke plunger repair to some extent, as the systems are not so different. A nice thing to see is the nib cursor is in place; this particular piece is in many cases missing. This one is still on, and still working properly.
Not sure about the cap match, though; the pattern is somehow different, also the colours. Yes, the cap and body they many times get different shades during the time, but even so, somehow the cap does not match the body. It is nonetheless a genuine Wahl Doric cap, so I guess it doesn't matter so much.
The pen is presented here, together with a similar Wahl Doric one (black), from the Atelier's private collection. Similar and both beautiful, right?
The pen has been restored, not without serious problems which were overcome. The essential steps are shown below. For those who wish to read or/and download the repair notes for this pen, I have posted it on our own Fountain Pen Network forum, have a look here: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/367142-wahl-eversharp-doric-repair-notes/#comment-4547499.
Now the pen is in fabulous working condition, and cosmetically has been improved too.
