Waterman Phileas Blue Marble
18/05/2022A couple of Kaweco vintage fountain pens, of the Sonderklasse 690 model both of them; there is a slight difference between these, as one is a 690KM and the other is a 690OM, so different nibs. The pens were sent in for repair by a client from Germany, both pens with serious issues: the piston seal missing (both), piston shaft damaged in one of them, nibs dirty, misaligned and scratchy, dents and other traces on the bodies and caps. Also, the cap rings were missing in both cases.
The seals were manually cut and profiled from cork, waxed and installed, work like a charm. The dings and most of the heavy scratches were filled-in and sanded. The engraved inscription "Kaweco Sonderklasse" on both bodies were remade. The nibs were cleaned up, readjusted and some minor grinding was employed just to make the nib meet the paper in a satisfactory fashion.
Alas, no rings were available, and even if they were, the caps had long shrunk, the celluloid is now a material which one has to be extra careful when deal with. All things considered, the pens are a joy to hold and use now.
