A very old and very frail-looking Kaweco Dia no. 83. Clogged nib and feed, the piston seal has shrunk, piston shaft is cracked, ink window dirty and stained. This pen will need a lot of work to be restored. Nothing is more satisfying than seeing a customer's smile when he holds in his hand grandpa's pen. And of course, it shall remain in the family, where it belongs.
According to the engraving, the nib is a B, and it surely is so. Nib is stained, and as I already said, looks to be fused together with the feed, into the section. A lot of grime and dirt has been accumulating over the years. However, the nib deserves any effort, as it is a slender semi-flex one.
The piston was dismantled and cleaned inside, then a new cork was made and installed. It fits like a glove.
RESTORATION COMPLETED
Piston has been fitted with a brand new cork seal, nib has been cleaned thoroughly and feed as well, ink window was brushed up and rinsed with some Rapido, which did the job quite nicely. Small abrasions were buffed, all the trimmings also cleaned.
The pen is in excellent condition, both mechanical and cosmetic alike.
